The original Certificate of Completion for traveling 66 was born out of a desire to help travelers better understand the road not as a relic but as it is today. Many travelers on reaching journey's end remarked to us on how 66 was not what they expected. They remarked on the wonderful people along the road, the food, the feeling of traveling to get to know the country. They told us they wished they had more time overall, that they had stayed in classic motels, and that they had used up less time on side trips away from 66 itself. We began asking them to teach others about the experience so that they too might find what keeps us traveling America's Main Street again and again.
If you're traveling the road you can pick up your certificate in person at our 66-to-Cali kiosk on Santa Monica Pier. We'll hold a short interview to verify you've really traveled the road and fill it out by hand.
If you've traveled all of 66 but didn't stop by to see us in Santa Monica we can send you one. Please include the name or names as you'd like them written ("Will Rogers", "The Joad family"), the date you completed your trip (or the last missing section if done in parts), and tell us some details about your trip including favorite places and people on 66, what you would do differently the second time, and what you were surprised by.
Proceeds from sale of certificates go to help efforts to preserve and educate the public about Route 66.
